Keely Rene's Gallery
In her three-part series, Keely (last name?) provides powerful and relevant commentary, both social and political. The paintings take on a classic pop-art style, yet touch on issues that very much apply to the present. Her “Drink Your Vitamins”, which speaks to the current condition of the world under COVID, takes on an ironically humorous tone in its reference to the failure of the right to effectively handle the pandemic. Keely’s take on Clorox, an everyday item which is now sought after like gold, pokes fun at the misfortune of the United States under President Trump. The painting of the tampon presents a strikingly unapologetic feminist stance. Female reproductive health and rights are an extremely urgent topic of debate throughout the country, and the artist is able to place these feminist pursuits loudly in the viewers face. Though the pieces are meant to be admired from a 2021 point of view, her use of primary colors creates a timeless tone and artistic consistency.
